Applying for Jobs with Stella Stecei

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another blog post! I have decided to give you another super fun bonus blog post this week! I have been trying out posting more frequently to see how I can handle producing more than one blog post a week! So far, I have been enjoying it and it seems like you guys have been enjoying it as well! If you follow me over on my Instagram, you know that I recently hosted an Instagram live in which many of you viewed, and I interviewed a friend about finding your first job! If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure you head over to my Instagram (@thelifestylemile) and go check it out!! I posted it as an IGTV so you are all able to view it at any time! It was super informative and super fun! As she answered the questions during the interview, I decided to record all of the responses on a google doc so I can now share it with you over here on my blog page as well! With that being said, let’s jump right into it!!

How many jobs did you apply for?

Stella mentioned that she explored other job opportunities but she only pursued a specific opening at a local restaurant. Therefore, she only applied to one job in total!

What did you look for when applying for jobs?

When Stella was looking for jobs, she wanted to explore local businesses that allowed her to have the flexibility that would work with her mom’s work schedule. Stella is currently 15 and she is not able to obtain her driver's license quite yet, therefore, needing a ride from her mom when she is on the clock.

What age did you start thinking about applying to jobs and what age do you recommend to start looking and applying?

Stella said that she began looking for jobs when she was 14 years old! She mentioned that she also applied to the job that she is currently at when she was 14 years old, but they did not truly look into her application due to her age. She suggests that you should begin to explore and apply to different job options when you are around 15 years old.

How much flexibility do you need to have for a job?

She said that it differs from job-to-job but you do need to have some flexibility because you may be able to pick up shifts on short notice. She also mentions that her boss is aware of the fact that her mom drives her, which limits her flexibility. In that case, you might need the opportunity to alter your schedule and change shifts.

What jobs do you recommend for beginners?

Stella would recommend the job she currently has now as a busser at a restaurant. Stella is new to working as of this year and from a beginner to a beginner, she recommends you look for simple and “easy to pick up and “learn” jobs, for your new experiences within the working industry. A busser at a restaurant is a wonderful way to make money and begin your work experience as a young adult.

What are your thoughts on the minimum wage?

Stella says that she doesn't mind the rate that it is currently but of course it would be nice if it was raised a slight bit!

What are your thoughts on work uniforms?

Stella mentions that her personal work uniform is to wear all black clothing from your personal wardrobe as well as an apron that the business provides. She also says that you are not allowed to wear tank tops, therefore, that factor is the only one that “bugs her” a bit. Other than that, she doesn't mind her uniform at all and is fairly comfortable!

What are some challenges when working with others?

Stella says that sometimes her work environment can begin to get busy and that causes more stress within her facility. This can cause other employees to possibly “snap”, although that does not often happen. There can also be the occasional rude customer.

Overall rating of your personal job?

Stella rates her job and 8.5. She decided to rate her job an 8.5 because everyone is very friendly and the environment is organized. She says that she “really likes it”. The only downside is that her current job is a bit far from her house and that is an inconvenience because she is on the clock frequently throughout the week.
