What I Eat To Fuel My Workout

Updated: Aug 2, 2022

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another mile here on The Lifestyle Mile blog page! Today I want to share what I eat (as a vegan) before every workout to keep me feeling energized and fueled throughout each session! Let's get right into this short and sweet post! Stick around and get inspired! (This post does not contain affiliate links).

My Meal

I begin by microwaving a serving of gluten-free rolled oats (linked here) for about 2-3 minutes with water (amount varies). I then add in 1 scoop of protein powder (linked here) and mix until well combined adding water until the consistency I prefer.

Oats

For my oats, I have chosen the Bob's Red Mill gluten-free old fashion rolled oats. The quality of this product is wonderful having just one ingredient, whole grain oats. This product fits into my dietary needs being vegan and gluten-free as well.

Protein Powder

After trying several different affordable vegan protein powders, I have landed on the Vega essentials plant-based protein powder in the flavor mocha. This is a great protein powder if you are looking for a delicious, wholesome, high protein option with loads of greens, veggies, vitamins, minerals, and more! When added to oatmeal, the texture and flavor highly compliment the oats making it a wonderful, tasty, filling, and energizing meal.

Toppings

I usually like to leave my protein oats plain but you can totally add all of your fav yummy toppings such as granola, PB, fruit, chia seeds, nuts, maple syrup, cocoa, etc!

Movement

After my breakfast, I usually take my dog on a 2-mile walk. This improves my overall digestion while giving him the exercise he needs to live a happy and healthy life. Then I head home to complete about an hour-long workout. My workouts are a mixture of cardio, abs, and weights.

Closing Thoughts

After trying many different foods before working out, such as protein shakes, vegan stir-fries, etc, I have finally found a meal that does not give me a stomach ache and satisfies me throughout higher intensity movement. I usually eat this about 30 minutes before I begin the movement, allowing the food to settle. I overall highly recommend you try out this combo! There is nothing like waking up and enjoying a warm bowl of oats! Enjoy:)

Have a wonderful rest of your day!
